Flagstaff Black-on-White Bowl
Anasazi (Prehistoric Pueblo); medium size bowl; 1125-1200 A.D.
Gray clay, quartz sand temper, white slip, carbon paint - sometimes mixed with mineral paint, all over complex designs, negative trend. Kayenta Series, vegetal paint. The Flagstaff designs contained diagonal hatching, paired geometric designs, and small squares with dots. The equal use of both black and white areas on a white slipped background resulted in an attractive and strong textile design.
